A REVIEW, by ROB MINDERMAN.GORD-X MARKS THE SPOT. Something's Gotta Give Gord-X 11 selection CD; From Rain-X recording. On a twilighty city night, somewhere, ... there! in the sky! A UFO descends and beams down an alien looking figure, down into a stark alleyway. A strange visage cooly stares straight ahead with some strange large guitar, pointin'it right at ya! Watch out! Something's Gotta Give: Gord-X is here. What is Gord-X you ask? Is it some kind of new space age fabric? No, it's the moniker for Gord Eckstein, a well known musician around the Toronto sceen. He's known to boogie on bass at Grossman's Tavern, The Matador Dance Club, and many other clubs in the area. He also performs on accoustic guitar in smaller venues in the city. Gord-X is out there. The 11 songs on this CD are performed mainly by gord himself, this including bass, guitar, keyboards, and programing the drum seqences. Some of the solo's are performed by noted guitar wiz Johnny Lovesin(tital track) Richard King of Halifax fame and Phil Emon from the band "BENJIMAN".He penned all the tunes himself xcept "FOR YOU" and the beautiful"I WANT YOU BACK" on which he had a little help from Miss Leeanne Poole. The songs range from NewOrlins style funk to the dreamy ballad "THE ISLAND" I liked the tital track as well as the chunky blues ballad "DRIFTING". For people who aren't into lyrics there's the spacious ballad "JACO'S GHOST" penned after Gord heard of his untimely death in a NewYork speakeasy. Gord-X is,I find sonicly electric in this, his debut release. We Xpect his prospectX for the future are X-ellent. End of review.
